Russia: they order pizza and get tricked

Many Russians order their pizzas on delivery apps, delivering some of their data along the way. Unfortunately, about 60,000 people have just paid the price.

Data leakage, tactic of war

While the data war is raging, and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict also serves as a battlefield between Russia and NATO, and more generally the West, all means are good to try to spy on your adversary.

The theft of data (data related to health, telephone number, e-mails, passwords, bank details), represents a crucial element in the tactic of war to weaken the opponent, in ever more psychological wars.

58,000 people involved

Recently, Anonymous just claimed responsibility for leaking personal data of 120,000 Russian soldiersthrough computer hacking operations, with the aim of “submitting them to a tribunal for war crimes”.

Today, it is a data leak for different purposes that took place in the country led by Vladimir Putin. This is not a claimed attack, but a data leak orchestrated by “the dishonest actions of an employee” of Yandex Eatsa super popular home meal delivery company in Russia.

Thus, these are no less than 58,000 people who saw their data evaporate into thin air according to London media Reuters. As a reminder, Yandex, the powerful digital firm that manages Yandex Eats, develops the most used search engine in Russia.

Sensitive profiles

If this leak is of a lesser magnitude compared to that linked to the Anonymous attack, it reveals information such as order details, delivery addresses, e-mails, or customer telephone numbers.

Among the leaked data, the media specializing in open source investigation Bellingcat went to identify those of a man working in the Russian military intelligence directorate. While peeling, the media reported that the man in question was being delivered to the address of a building belonging to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Something to ask questions.
