Game of Thrones: two stars of the series reunited in this new Netflix film

Since February 15, you can discover the film on Netflix Lost in the Arctic, Against the Ice, in OV. The feature film is a adaptation of the novel by Ejnar Mikkelsen which tells of his expedition with Iver Iversen in eastern Greenland. Unfortunately for them, things will not go as planned and will find themselves having to survive in this hostile environment. For the occasion, two stars of the series Game Of Thrones are joined in the cast.

An expedition that turns into a nightmare for three years

Indeed, in 1909, Mikkelsen and Iversen set out to attack Greenland aboard the ship Alabama in order to refute the idea of the Americans who believe that Greenland is divided into two parts of land and that the northeastern territory is theirs. The two explorers leave the crew on board the boat and embark on the crossing of this frozen territoryall by sleigh.

Except that after finding proof that Greenland is indeed one and the same island, they will have a hard time reaching their boat. Ultimately, they discover that the boat Alabama has run agroundand will therefore have to survive until a rescue team came to help them, in 1912 !

The Lannister family reunited

For this adaptation, Netflix has surrounded itself with two stars of the series Game Of Thronesnamely, first, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who played Jaime Lannister and who now plays the role of Mikkelsen. The other star of the HBO series is none other than Charles Dance who played Tywin Lannister, Jaime’s father. The partner of Nikolas Coster-Waldau, for his part, is played by Joe Cole from Peaky Blinders. For Netflix, he interprets the role of Minister Neergard, the President of the Danish Council at the time. This is the second time that Coster-Waldau and Dance have found themselves in the same cast.

The film Against the Ice details how the two men struggled to survive in freezing temperatures in Greenland for three years. Several of their dogs died and in order not to starve, Mikkelsen and Iversen even went so far as to eat the liver of one of their deceased traveling companions. They also survived the attack of a polar bear.

A shoot that was not easy

During the shooting of the film, the team also experienced quite a few difficulties, although these cannot be compared to those which the Danish explorers actually experienced. For example, the team found stranded in a snowstorm in a remote part of Iceland and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau suffered a concussion while filming the polar bear attack scene. Director Peter Flinth wanted to have a real animal on set, but in the end, it was Iceland’s heavyweight judo champion who lent his stature to create the polar bear in computer-generated images. It seems that the judoka did not go hand in hand with the actor!

If you want to find out Against the Ice and see some well-known faces from Game Of Throneswe advise you to go watch the movie available on Netflix.
