Doctor Strange, the already cult role of Benedict Cumberbatch?
For many years, Benedict Cumberbatch has become a key figure in Hollywood and more generally in cinema. At 45, the British actor already carries quite a filmography in his luggage, especially sincehe exploded in the eyes of the general public thanks to the series Sherlock, in which he embodies a contemporary version of the famous detective. A character who has also partly inspired his way of interpreting Doctor Strange, he explains in a recent interview with the media KCRW : “He definitely sees people as problems to be solved in a very ‘Sherlockian’ way.” And if Benedict Cumberbatch is currently still in full promotion for the feature film The Power of the Dog, he remains above all, with many spectators, the Doctor Strange of the MCU.
It must be said that the actor plays the role of the superhero created by Stan Lee and appeared for the first time in Marvel comics in 1963 particularly well.it took until 2016 for Doctor Strange to appear for the first time in cinemas in the eponymous film, this one has since settled comfortably within the MCU, sincehe notably appeared alongside his friends in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019). Yet despite this, the character would not be a true Avenger.
Doctor Strange and the Avengers: A Forced Alliance
It was during his recent interview for KCRW that Benedict Cumberbatch mentioned, between two questions on The Power of the Doghis role as Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And here’s why, according to him, he’s not a member of the Avengers:
No I’m not [un Avenger]. I’m not at Stark Tower with Nick Fury. No, [Doctor Strange] is somehow outside this realm, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a character trait. I think that'[Avenger]it’s just a working title. [Strange] is there to protect the Avengers’ reality in a different way than their own. […] There is always a time when he has to work with other people and team up. And you know, we might see that in the next movie: you’ll have to wait to see it.
Because yes: for those who would live in a cave, Benedict Cumberbatch will be back in our dark rooms on May 14, 2022 for the rest of his adventures, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A feature film directed by Sam Raimi and which promises toexplore more than ever the concept of multiverse gradually implemented during Phase IV of the MCU.
