This weekend, actress Emma Watson was present on the Bafta 2022 stage to present an award. She took advantage of this ceremony which rewards British cinema to send a discreet little spade to the writer JK Rowling, the author behind the saga Harry Potter. Check out his shocking statement.
The Bafta: all of British cinema
This weekend was held 75th edition of the Bafta Awards, a British ceremony which rewards the best of English cinema. Organized by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, this 75th ceremony took place this Sunday, March 13.
The opportunity to reward the best of the best. Among the big winners are The Power of the Dog who won the Best Picture and Best Director statuettes for Jane Campion. Will Smith walked away with the Bafta for Best Actor for The Williams Method while Joanna Scanlan won the statuette for Best Performance in After Love. At last, Belfast walked away with the Best British Film statuette.
Emma Watson’s heartfelt statement
Emma Watson was invited this Sunday March 13, 2022 to give the award for Best Film on the Bafta stage. Introduced by Rebel Wilson, master of ceremonies for this 75th edition, Emma Watson took advantage of her time on the air to a reflection at the direction of JK Rowling. Rebel Wilson introduced Emma Watson saying: “This is Emma Watson, she calls herself a feminist, but we all know she’s a witch”. What the interpreter of Hermione in the saga Harry Potter responded :
I’m here for all the witches by the way.
Words that everyone interpreted as a small spade in the direction of the author JK Rowling, recently widely criticized for her transphobic remarks. As a reminder, JK Rowling criticized an article from the Devew site which had used the terms “menstruating people”. What JK Rowling reacted to in correcting “people” by “women”, thus discrediting transgender and non-binary people who may also be affected by menstruation. A controversy that continues to make the public react. Especially since Rebel Wilson later drove the point home by declaring, referring to an old photo of her at the 2020 ceremony: “That was two years ago, and since then I have transformed. I hope JK Rowling still approves”. Holy atmosphere…
