A few weeks ago we brought you this fan theory that Homer was much richer than it seems, the opportunity to recall how much the absurd humor so characteristic of the series of Matt Greening actually made it possible to address serious issues. And if the series is known for its quirky tone, the fact remains that The Simpsons is also able to share strong emotions with the public.

Since its beginnings in 1989the animated series The Simpsons gave the audience countless memorable moments. The series, which takes a satirical look at an American family and their fictional town of Spingfield, has spanned the decades. She broke many records, in particular that of the American animated series with the largest number of episodes. But it also entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running sitcom in the world. There are many reasons for the longevity of the seriesbut most of it has to do with its cast of characters that have become iconic as well as its personal and self-aware humorous tone.
However, the series is equally known for its emotionally resonant moments. Despite the exaggerated and absurd nature of the series, a great effort is made to make the characters very human., grounding them in a kind of reality the audience can relate to. And while there are many examples of moving moments in The Simpsonsone scene stands out from the others.
In episode 13 of season 6entitled “And with Maggie it makes three” (VO: And Maggie Makes Three), Homer tells his children the story of the birth of the youngest in the family, Maggie. At the time, Homer left the nuclear power plant to practice the job of his dreams, a bartender at the “bowling alley”. After partying, Marge finds out she’s pregnant and tries to hide it from Homer. He will eventually learn it, and will then be forced to return to work at the plant. As a “welcome gift”, Mr. Burns leaves a plaque in Homer’s office that reads : “Don’t forget: you’re here forever” (liit.: “don’t forget, you’re here forever”).
When Maggie is finally born, Homer will bear unconditional love to her directly. Back in the present, Bart and Lisa still don’t understand why there are no pictures of Maggie in their family album. Homer then responds by saying that he has pictures, but they are kept somewhere where he needs them most.. We can then see that Maggie’s photos are in Homer’s office, on the famous plaque he received from Burns when he returned to the power plant. The photos are then arranged in such a way that they modify the words on the plate, where one can now read : “Do it for her” (lit.: “do it for her”).
It’s easy to forget, through all of Homer’s antics, that deep down he loves his family and works hard to support them. So any parent who has struggled to provide for their loved oneswhich may mean being required to work in a less than ideal job or make other types of concessions, can immediately identify at this time.
And justly, in a post on Reddita user shared footage from the scene, prompting strong reactions from fans. We can then read many comments there, praising the series, and proving how much this scene touched them..
Moments like this are why The Simpsons and Futurama are way ahead of most other cartoons. -u/Cal679

It’s scenes like this that show why The Simpsons lasted so long. If we look beyond the comic and satirical scenes, we see that genuine emotion resides in each of the characters, making the series timeless.. With this series, Groening proves that satire has the potential to allow viewers to question themselves and re-examine the society in which they live, while managing to touch their sensibilities.
