Revealed on the occasion of the Super Bowl 2022, the trailer for the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power elicited many very polarized reactions, between those who love and those who hate. Sean Austinwho is best known for playing the role of Sam in the Peter Jackson trilogy, gives his opinion on the first images of the series.

Expected for September 2, 2022, the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power crystallize both big expectations and big fears on the part of the fanbase of JRR Tolkien’s books. In effect, if the promise of exploring the troubles that occurred during the Second Age is attractive to everyone, some have only very moderately appreciated the first images of the series.
While the Amazon Prime Video series will have to compete with another highly anticipated fantasy series (House of the Dragonthe spin-off series of Game Of Thrones produced by HBO Max, and which will be released ten days before)the production must pay particular attention to its communication, in order to prevent the publicalready chilled by the relative failure of The Wheel of Time (also produced by Amazon), decides to ignore The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Especially since the series is likely to be compared to the trilogy directed by Peter Jackson between 2001 and 2003, and one of the greatest films of the past 25 years. But the actors of the film trilogy could however come to the aid of the Amazon series. If Elijah Wood (Frodo) had expressed his skepticism regarding this element of the series, his colleague Sean Austin (Sam) showed his enthusiasm much more clearly.
Indeed, interviewed by IGN, the actor of Goonies and of Stranger Thingsrevealed that the trailer gave him “chills“.
For my part, I am excited. I saw it at the premiere, and it gave me chills. Looks like they succeeded. I’ve always said: you’ll get there. It’s impossible for Amazon to pay close to a million dollars for a series and the fair.
Words which are intended to be reassuring, and which, if they are taken up by the former members of the cast of Lord of the Rings, could have a positive effect on communication around the Amazon series. However, the argument of the budget to assert that a series can only be successful may seem a bit light to the eyes of the most skeptical.
