Yesterday we unveiled the latest trailer for the next season of Netflix series Stranger Thingsthe opportunity for fans to have a first glimpse of the new threat that the hawkins band. But the fact is that this trailer contains many other small detailsallowing more observant fans to speculate on what awaits them in this fourth season.
well-hidden timecodes?
The second trailer for season 4 of Stranger Things has been out for barely a day and fans are already finding coded messages hidden among certain scenes. Indeed, incredibly observant (and motivated) fans have discovered that if you pause the video at 1:59right during the flash, we can briefly see an image on which seems to appear hidden timecodes in what looks like cosmic clouds.
We can then distinguish four different timecodes : 1:46, :33, 2:30, :52. Fans aren’t sure if these timecodes match previously released Season 4 teasers or if they’re related to scenes from the latest trailer. However, it would seem that the previous teasers are too short to be attributed to them. And the latest trailer meanwhile is long enough to fit them all.. The scenes highlighted with these timecodes could then allude to major points of this next season.
In the recent trailer for the fourth season of Stranger Things, the corresponding scenes, based on the timecodes in question, are as follows: Mike watches Eleven being taken away by the police, Max reads a letter at his half-brother Billy’s grave, Eddie the new character during a game of Dungeons and Dragons, and finally Dustin and Mike applauding a Lucas basketball game. Each scene is, of course, sufficiently vague in its context since the showrunners don’t want to spoil the plot before the release of the first part of season 4 in May.
As reported CBR, there are many possibilities with regards to these specific scenes and what actually happens in the plotso obviously fans are already speculating what those timecodes mean. The main theory is that there would be some kind of multiverse about to be introduced, since the timecodes appear in an image showing shapes in the cosmos. This theory could then explain why the new trailer appears to show Max with superpowers, as he could be a variant of Max from another reality, to use Marvel Cinematic Universe terminology.
the return of eleven’s powers?
And speaking of superpowers, another hot topic of speculation among fans is the potential return of Eleven’s abilities in this next season. As a reminder, this one seemed to have completely lost her powers at the end of the last season. But in the middle of the trailer, a discussion between Eleven and a member of the government reports on the situation, the young teenager precisely recalling that she no longer had powers. To which his interlocutor replies: “Without you, we won’t win this war”.
As Eleven’s powers originally manifested after a series of brutal experiences she had when she was younger, it is possible that she voluntarily agrees to undergo similar experiences in order to once again exploit his extraordinary abilities. Plus, with the monster’s discovery at the end of the trailer appearing as this upcoming season’s main antagonist, one can imagine why Eleven might need to tap into her superpowers again.
This threat could be one of a series of interdimensional threats that the inhabitants of Hawkins will have to face, but this monster seems to be even different from the threats encountered so far, appearing as more intelligent and even more powerful. And as it reminds ScreenRant, this monster might even be a nod to an iconic Dungeons & Dragons villainknown as Vecna.
Even if these brief glimpses of Eleven using her abilities only turn out to be flashbacks to the past, there’s no doubt his current lack of superpowers will loom large in the plot of this new season.
the place of the clock in this season
There is also a lot of speculation that time travel could be a major plot aspect of the next season.. First, the image containing the previously leaked timecodes may show portals, which the Hawkins gang will take via the Upside Down. It could be that some of these scenes will be revisited by the group later in the season. But another possibility is that these particular scenes are all happening simultaneously in the fourth season’s plot timeline.
Finally, we don’t yet know if time itself will be the main subject of the plot, but we are sure that one of these representations it will indeed be. During an interview withIGN, the brothers Ross and Matt Duffer, the creators of the series Stranger Thingsshared some comments regarding the famous clock which we find several times in the last trailer. They declared:
Ross: It’s an essential part of the mystery that our group of Hawkins is trying to solve. So, I don’t want to say too much except to say that this clock plays a very, very important role in the future.
Matt: And you don’t want to see the clock! If you see the clock, it’s a bad sign.
If the role of this clock still remains an enigma for the moment, we understand that it will occupy a central place in the story. Internet sleuths then linked the clock to the Creel house., a place that seems closely connected to the Upside Down. And at one point in the trailer, we can see the owner of this house, Victor Creel. Some think that Creel would be linked to this new monster, and that all this would be connected to the tragic fate that his family experienced in the past.
This fourth season of the Netflix series Stranger Things therefore seems to have a well-stocked plot in store for us, which will plunge the protagonists into mysterious investigations as dangerous as they are extraordinaryin a season worthy of Game Of Thrones according to the creators.
