Star Wars: this artifact can turn anyone into a Sith Lord

And precisely, in this vast universe which is full of mysteries of all kinds, a recent discovery shows that it would be possible to create Sith Lords.

DISCLAIMER: This article contains spoilers for Doctor Aphra #19 comics, if you’re going to read it, look no further.

the remains of an ancient cult

Archeology is a potentially dangerous activity in the Star Wars universe.. After all, an archaeologist can stumble upon anything, from an ancient Jedi artifact to a dark side relic possessed by the spirit of an ancient Sith Lord. However, for Doctor Aphra, a somewhat dishonest archaeologist, this danger remains synonymous with potential profit.

Unfortunately, even she seems to be in trouble recently. One of his rivals, Kho Phon Farrustries to use a terrifying technology with the ability to mimic the Force, in order to become a Sith Lord. This technology is said to come from a dark side cult called “the Ascendant”, which sought to replicate the power of the Sith. Kho Phon Farrus’ objective would then be to locate a specific piece of this technology, titled “the Spark Eternal” (lit.: the eternal spark).

In the new preview of the upcoming comics Doctor Aphra #19, directed by Alyssa Wong and illustrated by Minkyu Jung, readers finally learn what the Spark Eternal really is. Aphra then explains:

The Spark was the final masterpiece of the Ascendant. A technological instrument that confers enormous powers and allows to transcend the limits of the flesh and the machine.

According to Doctor Aphra, anyone who uses the Eternal Spark can then become a Sith.. The comics will be available from March 23, 2022 but in the meantime, discover below a preview of the next issue shared by ScreenRant :

a connection to the Scarlet Dawn?

On the cover of the comics Doctor Aphra #19, we can see the mention of Crimson Reign, suggesting that the comics will be linked to the Scarlet Dawn criminal organization. Agents of this crime syndicate have a long history of collecting ancient relics, including those related to the Ascendant. We can therefore assume that they are already familiar with this technology.

The Spark Eternal could allow them to transform their most dangerous agents into beings whose power rivals that of Palpatine or Darth Vader, thus posing a threat to Jedi and Sith alike. However, it is good to remember that this will not be enough to defeat the best of the Dark Lords of the Sith.. Because as the creator of the series explained Clone WarsDave Filoni:

Force exists naturally through balance. This balance is broken when someone chooses to give in to their fears and spirals out of control by making one selfish choice after another. Fear begets anger, anger begets hate, hate begets pain… The choice between dark and light is often subtle and not limited to Jedi and Sith. Everyone struggles with the balance between light and dark.

Each time a person draws or feeds on the dark side, they strengthen their dominance. And for example, Palpatine emerged as the manifestation of that darkness, greater than any other Sith Lord. So using the Spark Eternal might only have the effect of tightening the dark side’s hold on the galaxy.unwittingly making the biggest villains of Star Wars more powerful than ever.
