While disney capitalizes more and more on the franchise Star Warsfans are pleased to see the return of iconic actors movies, such as Ewan McGregor or Hayden Christensen that we should find in the next series Obi-Wan Kenobi which will come out on Disney+ next month. And with all these great returns, some wonder if Liam Neeson also could not return to the universe originally created by george lucas
a sine qua non
Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam Neesondied in the movie Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), but that hasn’t stopped fans from hoping over the years that the actor could return to the franchise. Since Star Wars characters thought dead have reappearedlike Darth Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) and Boba Fett in the series The Mandalorian and The Boba Fett Book, it’s entirely possible that Neeson will wield a lightsaber again. The actor recently told comic book it was ready to reprise the role of Qui-Gon Jinn, on one condition.
Oh, I think so… but only if it was a movie. Yeah I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to TV, I have to admit. I prefer the big screen. […] It’s been 24 years since we shot The Phantom Menace, I can’t believe the time has passed so quickly. It was a great experience to shoot this film in London.
Unfortunately for Neeson, the Star Wars franchise seems to be banking its efforts on series production rather than film. since the Skywalker saga ended with the release of the movie Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Nearly a dozen Star Wars series are currently in development at Disney+, including Ashoka and Andornot to mention the long-awaited third season of The Mandalorian.
star wars movies at an impasse?
Neeson had told Collider last year that he was unaware that fans were clamoring for Qui-Gon Jinn to return to Star Wars. The actor then added:
Of course I would like [le rejouer]but I wonder if Star Wars isn’t disappearing from the cinematic landscape.
If the series The Mandalorian allowed the Star Wars brand to rebound, the film franchise remained in uncertainty after the extremely polarized reactions generated by the theatrical releases of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm has a few Star Wars movies in development, including one from producer Kevin Feige and another from Taika Waititi, but we don’t know more about them at this time.
The next step for the Star Wars franchise is the series Obi-Wan Kenobi, where we will find in the title role Ewan McGregor, partner of Neeson in The Phantom Menace. McGregor told Entertainment Weekly that he watched The Phantom Menace and the other two films in the prequel trilogy for the first time since their release in preparation for its Disney+ series.
It was interesting to watch our movies because I hadn’t seen them since they came out, not at all. So it was cool to see and interesting to watch them and enjoy them without all the noise that there was when they came out.
Series Obi-Wan Kenobi will allow fans to find one of the most iconic Jedi Masters of the Star Wars universebut could also allow to finally fill this “lack” of the original trilogy.
