Shazam, Flash, Black Adam: here are all the announcements from Warner concerning his DC universe

Currently, CinemaCon takes place in the United States. The opportunity for all the major studios to make major announcements about their future projects. And that’s what Warner did, which gave a lot of information about its future DC films like Black Adam, Shazam 2, The Flash or Blue Beetle. Here are all the announcements from Warner Bros regarding the DC universe at CinemaCon in Las Vegas:

black adam

Expected next October 19, black adam is the new film by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise, The Passenger, Night Run). The feature film will focus on the adventures of Black Adam, Shazam’s nemesis in the DC universe. Played by Dwayne Johnson, this anti-hero is traditionally Shazam’s worst enemy. But this film, centered on this famous antagonist, is going to be a separate account of the adventures of Shazam. The opportunity for the DC universe to present in particular Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. Holy program.

Warner took advantage of CinemaCon to release some new information on black adam. The studio presented to the journalists present during the event brand new images of which here is the description:

A ship flies above the ice as Adam is in stasis. There are shots of him as a slave before his rebirth as a god. Adam said, “I kneel before no one”. Doctor Fate replies, “I’ve seen the future. Either you’ll destroy this world or you’ll save it.” The footage shows Adam walking through a desert. Someone fires a rocket at him. He grabs the rocket and it explodes. He survives, but gets angry, electricity crackles around him. The footage also includes shots of the JSA in action. Atom Smasher is in his giant form and running down the street. The Hawkman from the original trailer is shown again. Cyclone is seen inside a ship. Someone says, “Heroes don’t kill people,” while Adam replies, “Well, I do.”

So, as this new information confirms, the Justice Society of America will also be featured in Jaume Collet-Serra’s film. A cult DC comics team, introduced in 1940which places itself as the ancestor of the Justice League.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Expected December 21, 2022, Shazam 2 will still be directed by David F. Sandberg, who had already staged the first opus. This sequel will obviously see the return of Zachary Levi in the lead role. For the moment, we do not yet know much about this sequel except that Helen Mirren will star as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso.

During CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Warner dropped an unpublished comic scene that should probably be in the feature film. A hilarious sequence where Shazam dreams of Wonder Woman, before this dream turns into a warning. Here is the description of the scene in question:

Shazam is in Paris at a restaurant, with Wonder Woman having dinner with him. The hero tells Wonder Woman he can’t engage, and she begins to walk out, but suddenly stops. When she turns around, it’s not Gal Gadot, but instead it’s Merlin, warning Shazam that the Daughters of Atlas are coming for him. The footage also shows a giant dragon landing near them. Shazam then tells Helen Mirren, “Ma’am, I’ve seen all the Fast and Furious movies and it’s all about one thing: family!”

So, logically, Shazam: Fury of the Gods should therefore present the Daughters of the Atlas, but also the entire Shazam Family. In any case, if this hilarious dream is actually kept in the final cut, it’s a rather daring scene, which breaks the fourth wall and offers a comical meta approach concerning the presence of Helen Mirren, both in Shazam: Fury of the Godsbut also in the saga Fast and Furious.

The Flash

We now move on to The Flashthe future film by Andy Muschietti. Scheduled for June 21, 2023, the feature film will present the famous Flash who will travel through time and the multiverse. The film, which will probably be worn by Ezra Miller (unless…) should be the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness of the DC Universe. Flash will thus cross paths with several Batmans since Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton are both expected in the feature film.

But these two batmen will not be the only ones to return to Andy Muschietti’s work. In effect, Michael Shannon will reprise the role of General Zod, that he had camped in 2013 in man of steel. He won’t be the only character from the Superman universe to be in The Flash since Sasha Calle will play Supergirl, back for the first time in cinemas since 1992.

Warner also shared footage regarding The Flash and Michael Keaton’s Batman. Here is the description of these images screened during CinemaCon in Las Vegas:

Barry travels back in time to see his mother, Nora Allen, being murdered. Keaton’s Batman, at one point, tells him, “You wanna go crazy? Let’s go crazy”, with a smile on his face. The quote is from the original Batman 89 movie. He does this while in his Batman costume, without his cowl. As expected, Bruce will be older. Michael Shannon’s Zod also makes a quick cameo while giving a first look at Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. The footage also reveals Keaton’s Batman on a Batcycle while a car flies by in slow motion. There’s also a photo of Keaton’s many jumpsuits in Wayne Manor, all of which are variations of the 1989 costume.

We already knew that, but it’s reassuring to know that Michael Keaton will have a real role to play in The Flash. Like Spider-Man: No Way Home which brought Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire back as Spider-Men, The Flash will allow you to go back in time to bring back the great Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight.

Blue Beetle

We end our overview of the DC Universe with Blue Beetle. Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the feature film is awaited August 16, 2023 in cinemas. Blue Beetle tells the adventures of a Mexican-American teenager, who discovers an ancient Egyptian blue beetle. The artifact gives him magical powers that notably offer him superhuman strength. The vigilante will be embodied by the young Xolo Mariduena. The rest of the cast is notably made up of Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Trujillo in Indestructible Man or even the great Sharon Stone, back in the DC Universe almost twenty years after the disastrous Catwoman.

Warner took to CinemaCon in Las Vegas to share the first-ever visual of Blue Beetle. A sober and childish logo that sets the tone: a mainstream teen-movie comedy. We leave you with this first image, while waiting for more news around these many DC Comics productions:

A logo for the upcoming film ‘BLUE BEETLE’ has surfaced online.
