Risk of listeria: France recalls many cheeses

The recall of two types of cheese, for a risk of listeria, sold at Auchan, Leclerc and Intermarché follows similar problems with other cheeses, Kinder chocolate, and investigations into Buitoni pizzas.

Some cheeses sold in French supermarkets including Auchan, Leclerc and Intermarché have been recalled due to a risk of listeria poisoning.

The recalled cheeses are sold in each of the three supermarkets and are produced by the same company, Fromagerie Le Centurion, confirmed the specialized site Rappel Conso.

He said: “Listeriosis is a potentially serious disease with an incubation period of up to eight weeks.

“Severe forms with neurological complications and maternal or fetal lesions in pregnant women can also occur. Pregnant women, as well as immunocompromised people and the elderly, should be especially aware of these symptoms.”

Pizza poisoning

The recall, for a risk of listeria, comes after another complaint was filed against Buitoni. The pizza maker under the “Bella Napoli” brand. This, even though he is the subject of an investigation for a complaint concerning a pizza under his brand “Fraich’up”.

A woman who claims to have fallen ill after eating a Bella Napoli pizza has filed a complaint. However, for involuntary injury in Perpignan (Occitanie), reported AFP at the end of last week. Her lawyer said she had to be hospitalized for six days. This due to E. coli poisoning. And this, after eating food and being “still very tired a month later”.

In addition, his complaint comes a few weeks after the Paris public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation on March 22 for “diversion of goods, display or sale of corrupt or falsified food products harmful to health, marketing of a harmful product to health, endangering others, involuntary injury and manslaughter”.

In addition to the risk of listeria, there is E.coli contamination.

The Fraîch’Up range from Buitoni, belonging to the Nestlé group, is included in the investigation after the confirmation of 50 cases of E.coli contamination. Some of which would be linked to the consumption of Buitoni pizzas.

Also, the recall of cheese, for a risk of listeria, comes just one month after a similar recall for Brie, Camembert and Coulommiers and Kinder chocolate.

However, packets of cheeses and chocolates sold in major French supermarkets, including Auchan, Leclerc, Super U and Carrefour, were considered at risk of listeria and were also recalled as a result.
