Red Alert: This colorful secret you probably missed in the latest Pixar

Red alert, this is the latest film from Pixar studios. If this project stands out thanks to important topics and still taboo, the feature film also hides a colorful secret !

What makes the success ofRed alert on Disney+

When released on Disney+, Red alert charmed the subscribers of the streaming platform. It must be said that it is not common to see a little girl turns into a giant red panda when she can’t manage her emotions… In this animated film directed by Domee Shi, Mei Mei faces a major dilemma: get rid of her red panda, which shows up when she gets angry or stresses out too much, or accept forever to live with this part of his personality.

The film convinced the critics since it tackles unusual themes such as the transition to pre-adolescence, conflicts with adults or even the first emotions of love. In parallel, Red alert wishes to send a real message: the animated film wants to make how important and essential self-acceptance is for a future adult.

The color wheel used to accompany Mei Mei on her journey

You may not have noticed, but creators seem to be using the color wheel to allude to the emotional journey that Mei experienced throughout the Pixar animated film. On the universal color palette, red is the opposite of green. We don’t teach you anything, this color is often associated with anger, blood, while green is synonymous with serenity and well-being. Throughout her journey, Mei Mei almost only wears red on her clothes, sporting only a small green barrette in her hair. Conversely, Mei Mei’s mother and grandmother only dress in green-colored outfits, while the talisman in which they enclose their pandas is a very bright red. What should be understood?

This means that Mei Mei’s ancestors have a very conflicted relationship with their pandas. They prefer to separate themselves from this facet of their personality to lock it away forever in an artefact. Conversely, the little girl makes sure to accept all their emotions, even the most negative ones, in order to learn how to better control them. Rather than simply accepting her family’s traditions and expectations, Mei finds balance in her life with her friend Miriam, who, you may have noticed, practically only dresses in green!
