If they have never appeared in the MCU and we hope that Marvel will quickly remedy this, the X-Men remain very popular superheroes with the general public. Obviously, they mainly owe this popularity to Logan/Wolverine, the best known of them. Since the beginning of the year, he has also been at the center of two new projects, in which he lives very special adventures.
Wolverine at the heart of two new projects
First appeared in the comic book Incredible Hulk (vol. 1) #180 in October 1974, Wolverine is a particularly fan-favorite Marvel hero. Between his exceptional longevity thanks to his slow aging, his extreme agility or his overdeveloped senses, the character is also very well interpreted by Hugh Jackman in the cinema. But one of Wolverine’s signature powers, his ability to self-heal, may well be of no use to him in the context of his latest adventures.
Since the beginning of the year, the clawed superhero is at the heart of two new comic series published in parallel by Marvel: X Deaths of Wolverine and X Lives of Wolverine. Both are based on the clever screenplay choice ofexplore different periods of the character’s life, both in the past and in the future. And this is the case of X Lives of Wolverine which interests us today, since its fifth issue has just been published. However, since the #4actually Wolverine has lost his consciousness and now finds himself possessed by Omega Red.
Wolverine forced to turn on his own
In X Lives of Wolverine, Logan’s situation seems to have never been so desperate. He who can usually count on his incredible physical abilities and on his regenerative factor finds himself very helpless this time sincehis consciousness was taken from him, now lost in time and space. Blame Omega Red, a recurring enemy of the superhero, here sent from the future by the witch and magician Rasputin with the aim of destroying the X-Men. Among the targets also targeted by the two antagonists: Charles Xavier, alias Professor X. Logic, since the famous scientific genius and telepath is a pillar of the mutant community, and even founded the Xavier Institute, a school for young mutants .
And if so far, Wolverine had managed to protect him, X Lives of Wolverine #5 starts directly on Omega Red who now totally controls the body of the superhero, so much so that we see him attacking Professor X with his claws, injuring him in the process. However, he does not intend to let it go and will obviously find a way to respond, since the front cover of this issue presents us a raging fight between Omega Red and Wolverine. Who will win this fight? How does Logan manage to regain control of his body and his mind to once again face his enemies? We leave the pleasure of discovery to English speakersbecause X Lives of Wolverine #5 is currently available.
Obviously, since the two series are published in parallel and complement each other, the reading of X Death of Wolverine is also strongly recommended.
