You thought it was only Marvel that overdid the multiverse and had a monopoly on it? Well can you imagine that there is a film released at the end of March in the United States and which explores the multiverse. This production knows a huge success across the Atlantic and comes from dethrone the movie Parasite in the ranking of the best films of all time.
The Daniels explore the multiverse
This movie is Everything Everywhere All at Oncereleased on March 25 and which, in just 15 days, records more than 1.7 million admissions. Directed by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan (Swiss Army Man), we find in the casting Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, James Hong, Stephanie Hsu and jonathan Ke Quan (who played Demi-Lune in Indiana Jones). On the production side, we find the famous Russo brothers to whom we owe the Avengers At the movie theater.
What does it say?
The film tells the story of Evelyn played by Michelle Yeoh, a laundromat manager who finds herself overwhelmed by both her professional and family situation and who owes money to the taxman. One day, her life changes when her husband confides to her that he comes from another universe. From then on, Evelyn’s mission was to save the multiverse from a mysterious force. She then discovers that there are several versions of her in parallel universes and to counter the threat, she will have to intervene.
A radically different multiverse from the MCU
Everything Everywhere All at Once is quite difficult to describe. He mixes several genres ranging from comedy, action and science fiction. The audience moves from moving scenes to surreal combat scenes. Short, impossible to know what the film will reserve for us the second which follows.
We are very far from the representation of the multiverse made in Marvel with special effects. The directors, known by the nickname “Daniels”, explain that they inspired by Matrix, fight club and Being John Malkovich to offer us this film.
The performance of the main actress, Michelle Yeoh is extraordinary. In each of its variants it delivers a perfect performance. She can also count on the presence of Jamie Lee Curtis who plays Deirdre Beaubeirdra, the tax agent who tracks down Evelyn.
Besides its performance at the American box office, Everything, Everywhere All at Once scores 97% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and and managed to steal the place from Parasites in the TOP 250 of the best films of all time established by the Letterboxd site.
For now, Everything, Everywhere All at Once is broadcast only in the United States and we don’t know if it will be released in our regions.
