Elden Ring: after Sekiro and Dark Souls 3, FromSoftware explodes a hell of a record

If you are a fan of video games and you follow newsthen you must have heard of the last title of FromSoftware and bandai namco which has been in the news since its release, I obviously want to talk aboutElden Ring. Considered the game of the year by many players, recent figures confirm the impressive start made by the game, less than a month after its release.

the first official figures

We’re not taking too many risks in saying that FromSoftware’s latest title is one of the most popular video games around., evidenced by the various records that the game has exploded on Twitch and Steam. And while you might have guessed that the game’s launch was indeed a success, recent data more than corroborates that.

Indeed, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco shared the news in a press release, stating that as of March 14, 2022, Elden Ring had sold over a million copies in Japan alone, and 12 million copies worldwide. These sales are the result of the sum between the distribution figures of the physical version of the game and the sales figures of the digital version.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, President & CEO/Director of FromSoftwarebut above all director of the game, declared then:

It’s surprising how many people have played Elden Ring. I would like to share my sincere thanks on behalf of the entire development team. […] We hope players enjoy the degree of freedom offered by this vast world, while exploring its secrets and facing its many threats. We thank you for your continued support.

impressive results

Bandai Namco President and CEO Yasuo Miyakawaalso shared a few words to celebrate the success ofElden Ringclaiming that this is just the beginning for the all-new license:

A lot of effort has gone into creating Elden Ring so that we can exceed the expectations of fans around the world. In the same way, we will continue our efforts to extend the brand beyond the game itself, and into everyone’s daily life. We will continue to create fun and fulfillment through entertainment to bring us closer and connect with our fans around the world.

As reminded IGNfor comparison, the previous FromSoftware title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, had sold two million copies in 10 days. Dark Souls 3which was the fastest-selling title in Bandai Namco’s history, sold over three million copies approximately one month after its worldwide release in April 2016.

We then see that these 12 million worldwide sales, and this less than three weeks after its release, therefore represent a very impressive result for Elden Ring. But as reminded JVC, there is still a long way to go before it comes to compete with the games with the best launches of all time. We obviously think of the unbeatable GTA Vwith 11 million units distributed on the day of its release, or more recently Animal Crossingwith new horizons which had passed 12 million copies only eleven days after its marketing.
