Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: This commercial with Wong connects to Spider-Man 2

While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is expected next May 3 in dark rooms, the promotion of the film continues to intensify. Marvel Studios just released a funny ad that focuses on Wong and Doctor Strange’s cape. A short one-minute clip which is also an opportunity to offer an unexpected connection with Spider Man 2.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: a film directed by Sam Raimi

With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Sam Raimi makes his very first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCUs). However, this is not the first time he has worked on a Marvel film since he has already directed the trilogy Spiderman with Tobey Maguire.

Expected May 3, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will bring many Marvel characters back to the fore. We already know that Benedict Cumberbatch will play several variants of Dr Strangethat Elizabeth Olsen will return as The Scarlet Witch and that Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Charles Xavier, originally held in the saga X-Men. Since the film is going to explore the concept of the multiverse, there’s virtually no limit to the different characters that could appear as the story progresses. Sam Raimi might even have fun offering connections to his trilogy Spidermanespecially now that Tobey Maguire has appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

An advertisement that teases the appearance of Tobey Maguire in the film?

Since the output of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is fast approaching, Marvel Entertainment just shared a commercial focusing on Wong and Dr. Strange’s cape. This one-minute video thus sees Wong, still played by comedian Benedict Wong, clean Dr. Strange’s Levitation Cloak. However, the cape decides to run away, refusing to be washed off, and flees through the streets of New York. During her escape, she loses control of her movements, and crashes into a Joe’s Pizza food truck.

The most savvy fans will see a reference to Spider Man 2. Indeed, in Sam Raimi’s film, Peter Parker works temporarily for Joe’s Pizza before being fired because of his recurring delays. This ad offers an unexpected easter egg and an exciting connection between the two Sam Raimi films. Does this commercial tease the appearance of Spider-Man in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ? Possible. Especially since there are some differences between the Joe’s Pizza logo of Spider Man 2 and that of this Marvel commercial. Which therefore suggests that advertising and Spider Man 2 don’t take place in the same universe. Which is again, perhaps, a nod to the concept of the multiverse that will be at the center of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Other connection: the place of action. Indeed, in Spider Man 2, Joe’s Pizza is located on Bleeker Street. The same street where Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum is located in the MCU. The Joe’s Pizza truck parked near Doctor Strange’s Sanctuary makes total sense then. While this ad might just be a fun connection, maybe it means a whole lot more. Maybe she’s teasing Tobey Maguire’s appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And then remember, in Spider Man 2J. Jonah Jameson (JK Simmons) was already making a reference to Doctor Strange. Will the loop come full circle in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ? Response on May 3.
