Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: according to Sam Raimi, the death of this emblematic character could have been avoided

In a press release published on the occasion of the future release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel has made astonishing revelations. According to Sam Raimi, director of this film expected for May 4, a character who died heroically in previous films could have still been alive today.

A preventable death in Avengers: Endgame?

While several heroes lose their lives in Marvel productions, the others must continue to fight to maintain peace in the universe. Life goes on as they say, and the protectors of our beautiful planet have understood this well, especially when Thanos landed on Earth and decided to decimate half of all existing life forms.

In Avengers: Endgame, the heroes who survived the Snap of Thanos have made the decision to unite. Together they proudly battled the Mad Titan. But that was not enough in the end… In desperation, a member of the Avengers made the decision to sacrifice yourself to use the Infinity Stones and defeat Thanos. This hero was none other than Iron Man.

According to Doctor Strange, Tony Stark’s sacrifice was inevitable to defeat Thanos. But was that really the case? Sam Raimi sows doubt. In a recent press release published in the run-up to the release of Doctor Strange 2the director explained that Doctor Strange and other characters in the film will have some regrets about their choices in Avengers: Endgame. Of course, Sam Raimi has not said much more about it, except that we can see the repercussions of these decisions in the film.

Block Backlash from Infinity Stones

This isn’t the first time Marvel has hinted that Tony Stark died in vain. In the animated series What If…?, Killmonger had survived using the Infinity Stones thanks to the vibranium armor he had stolen from Ultron. Although he did not come out completely unscathed from their activation, it proves that it is possible to use the six stones without necessarily losing his life, like Iron Man.

The previously quoted press release does not specify if Doctor Strange really regrets accepting the fate of Iron Man, without trying to change it. However, it’s highly likely that Sam Raimi is referring to this event (given that Doctor Strange doesn’t actually appear until the very end ofAvengers: Endgame). It remains to be seen why he would regret it? And if there really was a way for Stark not to die, what would it have been?

If despite the passage of time Tony Stark’s sacrifice still upsets you so much, find out why it was decided that he was the one who should die and not Captain America in this article.
