Banana tips!
Flambées with rum, in cake, in juice… There are indeed dozens of recipes with bananas. They can thus be prepared with fruit that has just arrived than with blackened fruit to avoid waste.
However, if you don’t want to worry, you can also eat them as they are. And for that, it is better that our bananas are not too ripe. The problem ? They darken very quickly!
In fact, it’s all about storage conditions. But the best way to keep them as long as possible is to buy them still green.
The wow trick to preserve them without their skin
Do you love bananas and want to keep them for a few days without eating them? We have the trick! First, peel them, then squeeze lemon or lime on them. This depends on the preparation for which you intend them on it. Indeed, the acid present in the lemon therefore acts as a preservative.
However, do not overdo it! You risk that the taste takes over the fruit! Similarly, to have a sweeter taste… You can notably replace the lemon with apple or pineapple juice.
Once purchased, do not put your bananas directly in the refrigerator! Moreover, this is what causes their rapid ripening!
Generally, the perfect temperature to store them is between 21 and 22°C. These fruits then have their place in your kitchen or in your pantry. Warning ! No question of storing them in the fruit basket and even less of leaving them in their paper or plastic bag.
Indeed, their high ethylene content causes foods to ripen nearby. If you don’t have any, hang them on a hook and try the hanger trick!
Also, to stop their blackening, you can surround their stem with aluminum foil. Or put them in the freezer, another solution to keep your bananas for a long time.
Indeed, by placing the bananas in the freezer, they remain intact for several months. Hence the importance of freezing them ripe enough to enjoy them as they are.
How to do ? Once peeled, cut the bananas into slices, spread them on a sheet of parchment or aluminum foil and freeze so that they don’t stick together.
Then, after a few hours, take them out and seal them in a loose airtight container. Objective ? Gain some ground !
Direction the freezer until the tasting. Indeed, this technique allows you to avoid waste by freezing blackened bananas and saving them for your smoothie recipes. And finally, to enjoy bananas all year round, you can simply buy them frozen.
