While its sixth and final episode (of which you can discover all the details here) has been available since last Wednesday, one thing is certain: Moon Knight has earned a place in the hearts of fans. Very different from other MCU productions, it was initially supposed to see several of its characters appear.
Expensive cameos
A real critical success with Marvel fans, the Disney+ mini-series Moon Knight stands out from the rest of the MCU in many ways, from its setting to its atmosphere, obviously passing through its characters relatively unknown to the general public. But it is also the lack of links made with the Marvel Cinematic Universe that surprises at first sight. However, it is obviously not the desire that was missing, as revealed Jeremy Slater, the showrunner of the series, during an interview granted to The Direct. These are in fact several members of the Eternals, appeared for the first time in the MCU at the end of 2021 in the eponymous feature film by Chloé Zhao, who were to have the right to their moment of glory.
The worst tongues will talk about piston: if Eternals were to initially appear in a scene of Moon Knightit’s because Jeremy Slater is friends in real life with the interpreter of Kingo, Kumail Nanjiani. The sequence in question remains rather vague, but seemed particularly ambitious.
I really tried to integrate the Eternals in the series, simply because I am friends with Kumail Nanjiani: I wanted [voir apparaître] Kingo. At one point, there was a flashback that showed one of Konshu’s avatars in ancient Egypt, having to deal with Ammit being locked up, Alexander the Great and that sort of thing. Basically, you saw this avatar ally with the Eternals. It was a very fun scene, but again, it was so expensive to recreate ancient Egypt, to bring back three or four of the Eternals to have this big action sequence. Jeremy Slater
But while such a scene, including Kingo and other Eternal Mysteries, would surely have pleased fans and looked impressive on screen, would she have really brought much to the series?

The director of Moon Knight then continues his explanations and explains that he was torn between the disappointment of not being able to materialize his idea and the fact thatit was probably the best thing (not) to do for the series.
It would have been a very fun scene and it would have immersed the viewers from the start of one of the episodes, but it would also have impacted our budget elsewhere and probably deteriorated our final in the process. So it was the cameos that I had to cut. It hurts, but it was also the right thing to do for the show, and I think everyone sort of agreed. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future to connect this guy to other MCU characters and start building those bonds.. We therefore find, in these explanations given by the showrunner, the same state of mind as that of Mohamed Diab, the director of Moon Knight. Just yesterday, we shared with you his initial intention to include two Marvel character cameos in the series. No budget issue mentioned here, but the same desire not to force connections to the rest of the MCU to fit into a frame. One of the primary wishes of Moon Knight and one of its greatest strengths is to be a real standalone, which can be watched without having seen the previous productions of Marvel Studios.
