Star Wars: this new video game marks the return of a big name in the industry to the franchise

A few days ago, we presented the different projects that fans could see on the occasion of the Star Wars Celebration 2022, which will take place at the end of next month. Many projects including films, series or even video games should be unveiled there, like the next Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 for example. But it seems that lucasfilm is also preparing another game in collaboration with a young development studiothus marking the return of a big name in video games in the star wars franchise.

henning’s big comeback

A new Star Wars video game is in development at Skydance New Media, a development studio founded by Skydance Media in 2019 and led by Amy Henning. The game was announced yesterday by Skydance and Luscafilm Games, and marks Henning’s great return to the Star Wars franchise..

In effect, Amy Henning, known in particular for being at the origin of the first games Unchartedhad already worked for Electronic Arts (EA) on the Star Wars franchise, with the famous Project Ragtag. But after five years of development, Visceral Games, the studio behind the game and known in particular for the game dead spaceclosed its doors in 2017 and at the same time abandoned this ambitious project.

But Henning seems determined to try her luck again, and this time it will be with Skydance New Media and her team. The studio then describes its Star Wars projectas yet unofficially titled, as being a “cinematically rich action-adventure game with an original story”without giving further details. Henning then declared in a recent press release :

I’m thrilled to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.

a revival of star wars games?

Henning joined Skydance Media in 2019, where she launched a new division, Skydance New Media, with the collaboration of Julian Beakan EA veteran who participated in Battlefield: Hardline, Need for Speed and Project Ragtag. When the studio was revealed, it stated that they hoped “reach players and non-players with new story-driven interactive experiences […] which will use state-of-the-art computer graphics to deliver the visual fidelity of television and film, but with an active experience that puts the audience in the driver’s seat.”.

According to the press release published yesterday, Skydance New Media has since grown to include “developers and artists with decades of experience in action and adventure games, as well as a diverse team of creative consultants from the worlds of film, television, games and comics”.

This Henning project joins a string of Star Wars titles from developers like EA, Ubisoft and Quantic Dream. These new projects follow Disney’s takeover of Lucasfilm Games and the extension of the license after years of exclusivity from EA. Earlier this month, TT Games released LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagawhich looks back on the most iconic Star Wars moments.
